FTP Publishing details

On this section the details of the web server to which a website is published are entered. This field is required to automatically publish a site. You only need to perform the step once for each separated website you wish to publish. Once set up, you can publish all your changes in one click directly from the editor.

NetzBuilder uses the FTP protocol to connect to a server so you must obtain the FTP access details provided by your web hosting provider. If you do not know this information, we suggest contacting your Internet web server administrator. If you have a hosting service with Netz0 this data could be automatically configured, and you do not need to enter or modify them. Please remember that you can open a support ticket at any time if you want our staff to set up this setting for your Netz0 hosting service.

Once your FTP account details are entered, NetzBuilder will be able to connect to your server and publish your files as well any changes after pressing the Publish button.

The required FTP details are four, the address of the FTP server, the username, the password for the account and the port connection.

FTP Publishing details

  1. Public URL

  2. Here you must enter the full URL where your website is located. Usually you only need to enter the domain name as abc-0123.com if the publication consists of the primary site for the domain. If you are publishing to a subdomain or another directory within your domain, you must modify the field appropriately to match the final address on which your web visitors access the site.

  3. FTP Server

  4. This is the host name of your FTP server. If your FTP service is on the same web server, it is usually simply your domain name as abc-0123.com but it might be different like abc-0123.com

  5. FTP User

  6. This is the username you created for the FTP account.

  7. FTP Password

  8. This is the password for the FTP account.

  9. FTP Port

  10. In most cases it is not necessary to modify this field since port 21 is the default port and most FTP services use it. However, if the server administrator is using a different port and you received a different port number, you must enter it on this field. If you do not know the value, leave it at 21.

  11. FTP Path

  12. If your FTP service is properly configured for your web directory, you do not have to modify this field because the FTP server automatically places the files in the correct directory. However, your public web directory may be different for your FTP access. In this case you must enter the value so that NetzBuilder can locate the internal path on your server. For example, many web servers often use a public directory named public_html, if when connecting via FTP you are not directly inside that directory, NetzBuilder will not be able to publish your files correctly. In that case you must indicate the path manually.

For example, if your web server path for the HTML files is:

    /home/abc/public_html

But your FTP connection connects to the directory /home/abc by default. You must enter on this field:

    /public_html

If your FTP connects however to /home you will need to enter on this field:

    /abc/public_html

If your FTP connection details are correct, you can use the Browse Server button to locate the directory inside your server, once the correct path is selected it will be automatically copied.

You can test the connection at any time by pressing the Test Connection button. If the details are correct you will get the following message:

If you get an error, this indicates that one of the fields is incorrect or your FTP access is invalid. Check if the FTP Server, FTP User and FTP Password fields are correct until you get the success message.

After successfully testing your FTP connection click the Save Settings button to have the data permanently remembered by NetzBuilder. You do not need to modify it again in the future unless your FTP connection is modified by your server administrator.

ADVISE: Many hosting services provide a main FTP administrator account who has full access to all the files in your server. While you can use it with NetzBuilder, it is generally not a good idea to use an FTP access that allows the modifications of settings on a server. For added security, avoid using root or administrator FTP accounts and create a separate FTP access for NetzBuilder which is restricted to your website directory.
