  • The local domain registry in the country Venezuela is temporary down. We have detected the outage starting around 9:00 AM (GMT -5) and its still down at the current moment. This is probably related to the power outages and other communications problems affecting the country. As such we cannot process any new domain registrations for .ve domain extensions or other domain procedures.

Degraded DNS services (Resolved)

  • While applying security patches for Meltdown and Spectre some older servers are not coming back after a kernel reboot. While no customer service is currently impacted our DNS services are running on a degraded state. We don’t expect any downtime until we can fix the systems and bring them back online.

    The issue seems to be related to a bad update from Red Hat that is breaking specific systems running Xen. More information here:

    Since there is no inmediate fix from the OS vendor we are planning on recovering the affected systems from a backup copy.

  • We will be performing a phone system upgrade on October 25 until November 4. During this maintenance, our PBX lines will experience intermittent outages. If you are unable to reach our staff via phone, you can submit a ticket trough the client portal or use the live chat.

.AI Registrations Offline - Hurricane Irma (Resolved)

  • The current registrar platform for .AI domain extension is offline, so all new registrations and lookups are currently inoperative. Since .AI domains are managed from the island of Anguilla; the systems are currently shut down in preparation for Hurricane Irma. This tropical cyclone is one of the strongest seen since 2005 and is rapidly approaching Florida. The island of Anguilla is going to be hit by the eye of this hurricane category 5, and it is very likely the .AI platform will be offline for a few days.

    Affected Services:

    .AI services affected include any management changes to existing domains as well new domain registrations. Any changes made from you Netz0 account will be pending until the network connection in Anguilla is re-established. This does not affect the DNS resolution for existing registered .AI domains. If you have registered .AI domains, they will work without issues on the Internet as there are offshore servers in the US that are resolving the extensions.

  • The purpose of this message is to inform our customers of an upcoming emergency maintenance. The core router in our Dallas location is currently passing traffic but is in a degraded state. A reboot will be necessary to restore services on this device.

    El día 27 de mayo estaremos realizando cambios en nuestra infraestructura DNS por lo cual podrían presentarse interrupciones temporales o intermitencias con sus servicios y dominios hospedados con Netz0 durante al menos 24 horas.

    Este mantenimiento fue programado intencionalmente el fin de semana para minimizar cualquier impacto sobre sus servicios. Si bien no se esperan mayores interrupciones y el mismo se realizará en orden de evitar o minimizar cualquier corte es posible que su sitio web no cargue temporalmente por unos minutos en Internet de forma intermitente. Esto no afecta a dominios registrados con Netz0 y únicamente a dominios que utilizan nuestros servicios DNS como hosting, web, correo, etc.

    El cambio tiene el fin de implementar nuevas funciones de seguridad en el futuro como DNSSEC y ampliación de capacidad.

Virtual Hosting Services (Resolved)

  • We are experiencing a temporary problem with the virtual hosting services. We are investigating the issue.

    UPDATE 8:49 PM:

    We have identified the issue and expect services to be restored in the next 10 minutes.

    UPDATE 9:03 PM:

    The issue is now solved. All virtual hosting services were restored and are fully functional. We tracked the issue down to a recent kernel update in several servers which corrupted the GRUB file not allowing some services to reboot properly into their Linux operating system. We restored the affected machines and their boot configuration to enable them to boot to the latest kernels. The issue seems related to a bug in one of the software vendors which we are investigating as the grub config files was corrupted after the most recent software update.

    Cuando intenta ingresar a su panel de control obtiene una página en blanco luego de la autenticación sin ninguna opción adicional.

    Hemos identificado la causa a un bug del software que fue introducido en una actualización y el mismo está siendo corregido en estos momentos.

    Esto no afecta ningún servicio en su sitio web o cuenta de hosting y meramente está limitado al aspecto visual del panel de control.

Backup Self-Restore Temporary Not Available (Resolved)

  • The feature that allows customers to restore files and databases from their virtual hosting accounts is temporary not available because of technical limitations in the server backup software provided by the vendor R1Soft. Netz0 uses the latest version of Red Hat Enterprise 7 which uses the new file system XFS on disk partitions. We have moved the default Linux EXT4 partitions to XFS in all our servers after upgrading operating systems based out of RHEL.

    The current version of the server backup software only recently introduced support for XFS (April 2016), but it only supports currently full bare metal restore of servers. This means not only cannot we restore individual files or folders right now but neither can the customer from his control panel. We can only restore full servers in case of emergencies until a fix from R1Soft is provided.

    We are in communication with the vendor, and they informed us a release is scheduled for next month. We cannot currently restore individual accounts or data until we have updated our backup systems on this version. Hosting accounts and the data is still protected, and we are making daily backups of all the hosting account files, databases, and servers, so the data is safe and can we recovered but not until we receive this fix from the vendor.

    We expect to restore the self-recover portal fully once there is a release that fixes XFS compatibility.

    La característica que permite a los clientes restaurar archivos y bases de datos desde sus cuentas de hosting virtuales no se encuentra temporalmente disponible debido a limitaciones técnicas en el software de backup del servidor suministrado por el proveedor de R1Soft.

    Netz0 utiliza la última versión de Red Hat Enterprise 7 que utiliza el nuevo sistema de archivos XFS en las particiones de discos. Hemos trasladado las particiones predeterminadas de Linux EXT4 a XFS en todos nuestros servidores después de actualizar los sistemas operativos basados en RHEL.

    La versión actual del software de backup del servidor ha introducido soporte para XFS recientemente (abril 2016), pero sólo admite actualmente restauraciones completas de emergencias. Esto significa no es posible recuperar archivos individuales o carpetas de nuestro lado o desde su panel de control. Sólo podemos restaurar servidores completos en caso de emergencia o desastre al menos hasta que poder instalar el parche que solucione que permite leer datos individuales.
