Domains:Contact Information
Contact Information
The contact information section allows to modify the contact details of your domains managed in Netz0. The data entered here will be automatically sent to the authorized registry which manages the domain extension globally. All domains registered on the Internet require a valid holder, either an individual person or company that is the legal owner of the domain for private or commercial exploitation.
This information will be used by the authorized entity of the domain for different management and notifications, authorizations of changes in the domain such as renewal or transfer and to identify the domain owner.
The contact information in a domain currently consists of 4 types of separated categories. You can use different contacts for each category or use the same data in case the person acts as a representative for all of them.
The contact types consist of the following:
Registrant Contact
The registrant is the holder of the domain registration. A domain can be owned by an individual person or a legal entity such as a company. As such, the data specified here tells the extension registry who is the legal owner of the domain. This is the most important field in a domain as it indicates proprietorship of a person or organization for that domain name.
Admin Contact
The admin as its name says is the administrator, the person in charge for administering the domain. This person is accredited to perform management functions on the domain. In the case of companies, it is usually an authorized person within the organization such as the director, official administrator or another employee.
Tech Contact
The technical contact has permission to make DNS changes to the domain, such as modifying the name servers to which the name points on the Internet, as well turn on or off other functionalities.
Billing Contact
The contact billing is the primary point of contact responsible for payments regarding renewals and other financial procedures. In companies, it is usually the accountant or the person who approves payments.
As mentioned above, in the case of an individual person it is common to use the same contact for all categories as it’s the only domain holder.
In case a domain is registered by a third party, provider or employee of a company, it is vital that the registrant details associate to the legal person of the domain name. If details in that category are incorrect, an employee or another person could claim ownership of the domain as no legal link exists between the domain and the registry to verify the real owner.
In addition, according to regulations of the ICANN and most extension registries, it is necessary to place valid and truthful information on a domain record. Using false, incomplete or partial data may result in the subsequent cancelation or loss of the name on the Internet.
In the case of certain extensions, the data saved with a domain record is announced to a public database on the Internet for domain ownership and contact information verification. This database is titled WHOIS. If you do not wish to make the contacts public, you must activate the Privacy Protection service to prevent personal data from being exposed on the Internet.
If you are located in the European Union, the information will be masked before being published into the Whois database in order to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The fields you must complete for each contact type consist of:
For each type of contact Netz0 allows you to pick between two options:
Using the option Use existing contact account (1) allows to select between different types of contact profiles saved in your Netz0 account. The default option uses the Primary Profile Data (A) and with this option the domain will use the main information from your customer Netz0 account without the need to enter them manually for each domain you register. If you have other contact profiles saved in your Netz0 account, you can choose here which one to use.
If you need to enter specific details into a contact type you can do so by selecting Specify custom information below (2) and manually completing the fields. The entered data will only be saved for the specific contact category and only for the current domain as opposed to using contact profiles.
Make sure all the information is correct as otherwise you will get an error while trying to save the details. Once you are satisfied with your modifications press the button and they will be processed from Netz0 towards the entity assigned in managing the domain extension. In case of success, your domain starts to use the new information almost immediately, but with certain extensions this can last a few hours as not all entities process modifications in real time.
If you get an error, verify if the domain is not locked under the Secure Block functionality as that feature blocks changes in a domain to prevent unauthorized modifications. If the domain is locked, you must disable this option before applying changes. If you get another error, try to verify which of the fields contains incorrect information and try again after correcting them or create a support ticket if the error persists.
